'Self Evident', 1995 (selected images)
Using colour light boxes in conjunction with large scale black & white prints, this body of work looks at the history and medium of the photographic portrait in the studio and on location. The sculptural space of the gallery and the audience's experience of viewing a work inform this work. Incongruously adult subjects are placed in a number of landscapes holding iconic objects which refer to a British economic colonial past. Larger than life images of children photographed in the studio, present a less defined set of ideals of the ’figure in the landscape’.
