The original photo-essay places geography and urban studies along side issues of memory making and uses of the archive. The geographies of race and ethnicity are explored through the ephemeral qualities of video; crossing time, place and re-memory and the archive. (New Geographies of Race & Racism)
'The family arrived in London from Brtish Guiana in the mid 1950’s. A trained printer arrived first follwerd by wife and and two daughters. The community in Georgetown that Mr & Mrs Pollard came from were all enthusiastic photographers, of family occasons, formal events, body building, general ‘liming’ (hanging out) and portarture. A gift of coutship was hand made photo album made by Sylvan Pollard. The year that he in London before the arrival of his wife was marked by weekly airmail letters of new metropolitain life, new job and exceited delight in city life. The albums contained through out the next 40 yaears documenting the families new life in London'. The letters and photos from album featured in a DVD video, ‘Belonging in Britain’ 2011.
